Frequently Asked Questions

Do I really need a water softener?2026-10-10T14:08:41+00:00

Not always. Signs of hard water include white scale, spotty dishes, soap that won’t lather, and dry skin or hair. Halifax’s lake-fed city water is often softer than well water, while many Nova Scotia wells are hard. A free water test tells you for sure.

How do I choose the right size?2026-10-10T14:08:42+00:00

Size depends on your water’s hardness, your number of bathrooms and how many people live in the home. We work it out from your free water test, so you don’t have to guess.

Is installation included?2026-10-10T14:08:43+00:00

Yes. Every system is installed by our own local team, and your quote includes standard installation. If your home needs extra plumbing work, we’ll explain it and include it in the quote before we start.

Salt-based or salt-free — what’s the difference?2026-10-10T14:08:44+00:00

Salt-based softeners remove hardness minerals for true soft water. Salt-free conditioners change minerals so they’re less likely to form scale, but don’t remove them. Salt-free needs less upkeep, but the water won’t feel soft. We’ll help you decide which suits you.

What areas do you serve?2026-09-06T08:15:00+00:00

We’re based in Dartmouth and serve Halifax, Dartmouth, Bedford, Sackville, Cole Harbour and surrounding communities across Nova Scotia. Not sure if you’re covered? Give us a call at (902) 708-7270.

How much maintenance is involved?2026-09-06T08:14:00+00:00

Salt-based softeners need salt topped up every few weeks, and filters need changing on a regular schedule. We’ll set up a simple maintenance plan and can handle filter changes for you.

My well water smells like rotten eggs. Will a softener fix it?2026-09-06T08:13:00+00:00

No. That smell is hydrogen sulphide, which softeners don’t remove. It needs sulphur treatment, such as an air-injection or oxidizing filter, often paired with a softener.

Do you sell systems online?2026-09-06T08:12:00+00:00

No. Every system is recommended after a water test and installed by our team, so it’s sized and set up correctly for your home. Call or send us a message to get started.
